Breathing Space
The Satori Space by Prescription Audio at vir tu is described as, “...like nothing you’ve ever experienced.” Skeptics abound wondering how this revolutionary audio therapy combined with the vibrations from the Satori chair can deliver results for issues from weight loss to smoking cessation. But as explained, the Satori Space works by gently guiding brainwave patterns to levels of meditation, while synchronizing the body with vibrations from the Satori chair.
With a description like that, I knew I would have to go and try it out for myself.
I walked into the quiet, dimly lit room, sat on the curved Satori chair and put my feet up and my head back. Vir tu team member Margie Garcia gently placed headphones over my ears, and I closed my eyes and listened. I remember hearing a babbling brook that I imagined dipping my toes into, and I could feel vibrations in the chair. And that’s the last thing I remembered!
The next thing I knew, I was lying in the chair with neither sounds nor vibrations, and I had just woken up. In as little as 30 minutes, my mind had gone somewhere else on a journey of total relaxation.
Garcia told me that I had experienced the “Meditation Chakra,” which is a physical and mental detox program that aligns all of your chakras at the same time. She explains: “Chakras are doorways for our consciousness. The energy created in our minds and bodies runs through the chakras and is distributed to our cells, tissues, organs and glands. In effect, these doorways enable us to affect our own bodies, minds, and circumstances.”
The vibrations in the chair are designed to go with the acoustics of the music. Together, these affect transmittors in the brain and allow you to go into a dream state (REM state). The REM (Rapid Eye Movement) state usually occurs 90 minutes after falling asleep. The first period of REM state typically lasts 10 minutes; each following REM state increases in time; and, the final state lasts about one hour. Most vivid dreaming happens during this stage of sleep, which really allows for deep relaxation. The more frequently you use the Satori Space, the faster you go into that state.
While I could understand why the Satori Space was great for relaxation, I was curious as to how it could help someone lose weight. Garcia explained that the combination of music, sounds, tones and vibrations deliver many different therapies, including weight loss and smoking cessation. According to Garcia, “Each acoustic is individually designed to affect specific neurotransmitters in your brain. The specially designed weight-loss program retrains and refocuses your brain so you process food properly.”
Vir tu recently had a client who began losing weight after her third Satori treatment. She reported that she automatically started reaching for fruit when she was hungry rather than junk food.
Garcia notes, “It’s difficult for people to really understand how beneficial the Satori Space can be for their overall well-being. Many people have forgotten how to stop in the busy-ness of their lives and simply take a moment to breathe. And that’s what the Satori Space does – it allows you that moment of relaxation. It stops you, refocuses your energy and helps you find mind-body balance.”
